Frequently Asked Questions

How much do sessions cost?

Counseling sessions are $140 for 55–60 minutes. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients with financial need and barriers to finding appropriate care—please reach out to see what’s available. I accept HSA/FSA cards for all services and I’m happy to provide superbills for counseling sessions if you’d like to seek out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance provider. Out-of-network reimbursement must be verified with your insurance provider, different plans have different guidelines here so you must verify if this is an option.

Custom bodywork sessions are $140-240 (including gratuity), depending on the length of your session. You may also use your FSA/HSA card for payment as massage is considered medical care (we will define in your chart your specific medical needs). New clients can book their first session at 15% off and I have discounts for multiple sessions purchased. Gift certificates are also available. Please inquire through my contact form or email about gift certificates or multi session purchases.

What kinds of therapy or bodywork do you offer?

My counseling sessions are highly relational, collaborative and customized to your concerns. They may include Somatic and Embodiment practices, Body Liberation approaches, EMDR, MBNET, Dynamic Emotional Integration, Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work, Depth Psychology/Shadow Work, and/or Sand Tray therapy.

Custom bodywork sessions are created after we consult to best meet your needs. Sessions can combine Connective Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Swedish massage, Polarity Energy Work, or Craniosacral Therapy.

Can you be both a counseling and a bodywork client?

For my some of my established counseling clients, I provide Craniosacral Therapy/Energy Work that is collaboratively decided to be in service of your previously defined therapeutic goals.  I do not offer other forms of bodywork but am happy to provide referrals.

I do not provide counseling services to my bodywork clients and can provide referrals for needs that arise while working together to better support you. If while working together it is clear that you need more support, we will pause, consult and make a collaborative plan that honors your needs and safety. My bodywork is a great fit for those that want to incorporate professional touch based care into their existing physical and mental health team and I’m happy to coordinate with your providers to offer you wrap around care.

If you are unsure where to start services or have questions not answered here, you are welcome to book a free consultation.

Who do you work with?

For counseling, I work with elders, adults and teens (14+) in Oregon and Washington who are capable of engaging in therapy. My approach can work with most anyone who finds it helpful. Many of my clients identify as LGBTQIA2S+, neurodivergent (particularly autistic, adhd or audhd), highly sensitive or empathic, are parents, or are healing from trauma, burnout, eating disorders, divorce or life transitions. I am also skilled in holding space for spiritual or identity exploration (at any stage of life) and healing from religious or cult harm. With that said, you don’t have to have a diagnosis or even a clear “why” to work with me—just a feeling that we may be a good fit and a desire for something different in your life.

For bodywork, I work with elders, adults and youth age 10 and up who are looking for professional massage or bodywork. For those under the age of 16 parental consent is needed and for those who are younger sessions may work best if a parent is in the room, we can discuss this more before your appointment to assess what would work best for their comfort. I also provide a radically inclusive space for gender expansive folks and those that are in bodies of all shapes, sizes and abilities. I have experience working with those that have had breasts removed to facilitate their recovery as well as providing bodywork on fat bodies (I say that as a fat positive provider who accepts that body size is a natural part of human diversity).

Where do you offer therapy?

Counseling is available online through my HIPAA-compliant platform for residents of Oregon and Washington or in person at my SW Portland office in the Capitol Hill neighborhood (SW Barbur Blvd).

Bodywork is offered at my SW Portland office. For long term established clients with extenuating circumstances, home visits may be an option after establishing care (rates and details will be discussed at that time).

What does a first session look like?

The first counseling session is all about slowing down and getting to know each other. We’ll talk through what’s bringing you in and begin mapping out what feels supportive. There’s no pressure to go deep right away (unless you want to, then let’s go there!)—this work is collaborative, and we’ll build it together. If you are experiencing a more acute crisis, we will assess your safety, appropriate level of care, support structures, and focus on more immediate stabilizing interventions.

For bodywork, the first session will take some extra time to understand your needs and preferences, and then we’ll head into a full session where I will check in about pressure and comfort along the way.

For both counseling and bodywork, you will receive an invitation to my confidential electronic health records system to create an account and fill out paperwork. This is an important step to helping me help you and must be done before we meet. For bodywork, it may be possible to fill out paperwork in person if you come at least 10 minutes early otherwise I can not guarantee you a full session.

Do you take insurance?

At this time, I am not in network with insurance companies. For counseling services I can provide a superbill that you may be able to submit to your provider for reimbursement. This means payment in full will be accepted following your session and you will then file with your plan to be reimbursed directly. If you are receiving insurance reimbursement you will need to be billed at the full session rate, not a sliding scale. Before our session you will need to contact your insurance provider to determine the specifics of your plan, I do not determine if this benefit is available. You can also use HSA or FSA accounts. For both of these options we will need to do a couple of extra steps, including establishing medical necessity though a collaborative diagnostic assessment.

Benefits of not billing insurance are- it allows me to keep your care private, avoid pathologizing diagnoses when not necessary or helpful (sometimes they are!), and tailor treatment in a way that insurance-based models often limit. It also allows me to offer accessible rates & sliding scale options as I have less time used doing paperwork.

I am not currently on insurance panels for massage but you are welcome to use your FSA/HSA card for bodywork/massage.

Do you offer sliding scale or accessible pricing?

Yes, I offer a limited number of sliding scale sessions as a way to honor community care and promote accessibility to support in ways that feel sustainable and compassionate. If you're using the sliding scale, I invite you to assess your needs from the heart, honestly reflecting on your financial situation while also holding space for the needs of others in our shared community. In these times when care is becoming increasingly inaccessible for those that need it most, consider that if you are paying at full price you are making it possible for me to take others at sliding scale, thus practicing collective care as well as care for yourself. This approach allows us to maintain a balance between care, integrity, and sustainability for all.

For more information about assessing where you might fit in a sliding scale please read this article about the “green bottle” method https://www.wortsandcunning.com/blog/sliding-scale

Research shows that the more energy (sometimes measured by money but not always) you put into your therapy, the better the outcomes. There does not need to be shame in asking for your needs to be met. If cost is a barrier, reach out—I’ll let you know what’s available and whether we might be a good fit.

What if I don’t know what kind of therapy I need?

That’s completely okay! Sometimes people aren’t sure at first. We will first start with a free 20 minute consultation to talk through your needs, and I’ll help you decide which offering feels most aligned for where you are right now.

How do you address accessibility and unique needs?

There is a dedicated handicap spot in the parking lot at our building as well as an elevator leading up to the 2nd floor. For those in wheelchairs or mobility devices, all doors are ADA compliant, please let me know if I can assist in any way. My massage table is approved for weights up to 500 pounds, has extra arm width than standard tables and has an electric lift for easily getting on and off. I also have additional bolsters and am very open to collaborating on comfort options. As of now, masking is optional for bodywork and counseling. However, I have masks on hand and am happy to mask up upon request, just let me know before your first session. I also have medical-grade air filtration in my rooms as well as practice stringent cleaning measures between clients. Unfortunately, our building does not have gender neutral restrooms at this time. I know this is not an adequate replacement but my building tends to be very low traffic with very respectful office neighbors. Please let me know if I can assist in feeling safe. For my sensory sensitive clients, I offer a transparent, welcoming and friendly environment to collaborate on how to make your time here the most comfortable and affirming it can be with an office that is sensory friendly that can often be adapted to meet your needs.
